Listeners will be know that for The Big Show it isn’t “Show Hobby”…it’s “Show Business!” We make it our business to report and provide commentary on all the breaking entertainment news. The biggest buzz today revolves around last night’s Grammy Awards. The most sought-after and most Tweeted part were the performances. Here are some highlights.
Ed Sheeran made it no secret that it was thanks to Sir Elton John they had the opportunity to perform on stage together. Sheeran told MTV News that John “Put it together. He rung me up one day and said, ‘how would you feel about performing with me at the Grammys?’” Who wouldn’t fit that into their schedule?! John accompanied Sheeran on the piano while harmonizing on Sheeran’s nominated song, “The A Team”. The simplicity of the performance was a standout. Todd did not initially know how he felt about John’s attempt at Sheeran’s song, but went on to say it was well done. Sheeran took to Twitter to say he had “so much fun playing my song with Sir Elton too, will not forget that!!”
Kelly Clarkson proves she is one of the greatest voices of our generation. While she did not perform a song of her own, she paid tribute to Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winners Patti Page and Carole King, singing “Tennessee Waltz” and “Natural Woman.” Congrats on winning Best Pop Vocal Album!
Another previous American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood, performed her hit song, “Blown Away,” and blown away we were! Breathtaking in a silver gown, she also sang her song “Two Black Cadillacs”. Her dress became a screen to which images such as fireworks and roses were projected on.
Fun. performed their new single, “Carry On”. The most shocking part was when special effects kicked in and buckets of water rained down on the band with no sign of electrocution!
Maroon 5 and Alicia Keys teamed up to do a mash-up of “Daylight” and “Girl on Fire”. While the performance was brilliant, the biggest topic of discussion on Facebook and Twitter were for Maroon 5’s lead singer Adam Levine to take his shirt off! Calm your horses, ladies!
Justin Timberlake aka JT makes a strong comeback with his anticipated performance of his new single, ‘Suit and Tie’, to which Jay-Z walked up to the stage and performed his bit. The performance was colored sepia on televisions, giving it an old-fashioned jazzy vibe. Justin Timberlake has still got it and seems to never age too! Jessica Biel must be a proud wifey.
It’s no award show without Taylor Swift making a bad*** comeback at her exes. Last night, she made it known that she is “never ever ever getting back together” with ex, Harry Styles. Swift opened her show with a circus-themed extravaganza. In the spoken part of her song, she spoke into a hypothetical phone saying, “So he calls me up and says, ‘I still love you’”, all while mimicking Style’s British accent. Immediately following, she made a bold statement by declaring that she was too busy opening up the Grammy’s for him. I don’t know how One Directioners will feel about this. Cooper, Todd and Monk all felt that Swift had the “worst English accent ever!” Perhaps she should never ever ever do that again!
Whether you watched the Grammy Awards or heard about it through the grapevine, it was definitely a night dedicated to appreciating all that music has to offer.
